Who is that dynamo with the infectious smile, the one you just can’t forget meeting after just a few minutes? It’s Kathryn McClure Ingram. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and raised in Fox Chapel, Kathryn was a huge Steelers and Penn State Nittany Lions supporter. Always loyal to her roots, even after living over 50 years in the Santa Cruz Mountains, she never allowed her kids root for any other teams.

She earned a marketing and merchandising degree from Penn State University. Upon graduating, her parents, Robert, an attorney for U.S. Steel, and Annabelle, an English teacher, encouraged Kathryn to move to New York City. Her degree and big personality landed her the perfect first job for a youthful twenty-two year old, at 17 Magazine. After a few years in New York City, her true lifelong passion would emerge: children. She left 17 Magazine, and rode the subway daily to teach youth in Harlem.

After leaving New York City, she attended graduate school at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. There, she met Paul, her future husband, at a Peace Corps party. Throughout her life, she passionately advocated for children, giving them voice, educational opportunity, and love. Kathryn was a foster parent, a two-time CASA student advocate of the year, founder of Lexington Elementary School’s extended-day program, a K-3 school principal, a mentor to at-risk high-school students, and the co-founder of iD Tech.

iD Tech offers summer technology programs to hundreds of thousands of children and teens at university campuses throughout the United States. Part of her legacy at iD Tech was establishing scholarship programs and classes to encourage girls in STEM. Kathryn was the original influencer: entrepreneur, humanitarian, child advocate, educator, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was bigger than life.

Kathryn has two children, Alexa and Pete (and his wife Natalia), and five grandchildren, Gabriella, Mateo, Marco, William, and Catalina. She is also survived by two brothers, Bobbie and Tad (and his wife Katie). Kathryn passed at home in Aldercroft Heights on June 27, 2025, surrounded by amazing and loving caregivers, family, and her favorite flowers, hydrangeas and lavender roses.
