The Cats Estate:

New Museum of Los Gatos The iconic white stone cats, Leo and Leona, that guard the entrance to the grand estate known as “The Cats,” are familiar to all of us who drive Highway 17. Charles E.S. Wood, an author, civil-rights advocate, and artist, and his wife Sara Bard Field, a poet and suffragist, purchased the land in 1919.

They built their grand estate as a home and artists’ retreat. On Thursday, August 20, the New Museum of Los Gatos (NUMU) will host a talk by longtime Los Gatos resident and local historian Alan Feinberg about The Cats Estate and its famous residents.

This fundraising event provides much- needed financial support for mental-health initiatives at Los Gatos High School, R.J. Fisher Middle School, and C.T. English Middle School.
