The end of 2024 was full of festivities at Lexington. Ms. Kajsa’s TK class paraded around campus on the Scandinavian holiday Santa Lucia, singing with “candle” crowns on their heads. The annual Lexington talent show took place at the end of December.

Our librarian, Barbara Lougée, organized the performers and tech crew. Second- through fifth-grade students demonstrated their talents in front of the entire school and their families. Talents ranged from singing, piano playing, karate, magic tricks, speed-cup stacking, and a circus act. One student even solved a Rubik’s Cube in under three minutes. The show concluded with Lexington’s fifth-grade teacher Mr. Joanides, TK teacher Ms. Kajsa, and fifth-grader Luke, singing a great version of Billy Joel’s The Longest Time.

Our third- through fifth-grade students gave a wonderful winter music performance for their parents. The band, chorus, and string ensemble played various winter holiday tunes under the direction of our amazing district music teachers: Mr. Rasura, Ms. George, and Mr. Wincor. One Los Gatos contributions fund our music program and staff. We are very appreciative of the strong support from the Lexington community.

Lexington families currently have the highest percentage of participation in this year’s OCLG fundraising campaign. We hope to reach our district fundraising goal soon. Before Lexington families began their holiday, the Home and School Club threw an end of school “Winter Send-off” party

at dismissal time. They used a fake snow machine to create a wintery scene as students prepared to leave school. Parents dressed up as winter characters and handed out cookies to parents and students. A talented fifth-grader, Luke, sang and performed holiday songs on electric piano, along with Mr. Joanides, Ms. Kajsa, Ms.

Katie, and myself on drums. Many students joined in. It was a great holiday send off. Our fifth-grade students have begun the IB Primary Years Program Exhibition. This is the culminating project for all IB primary schools around the world. The class collaboratively developed a big conceptual central idea under a particular theme. This year, that theme is “Who We Are.” Students then research a topic of their choice about which they are passionate. They work with a mentor, interview experts, decide on an action based on their learnings, and reflect throughout the process. They will present their findings to the public in the evening on Thursday, May 22. Everyone is Next year, transitional kindergarten (TK) will be open to any student who turns four by September 1, 2025. There will be at least one TK class at each school in our district for the 2025-26 school year. Registration runs February 3 through February 28.

Because interest may exceed capacity at some of our schools, a lottery will determine site placement. Any child whose registration is complete by 3 p.m. on February 28 will be entered into the lottery, which will happen on March 7. Any student enrolled on or after March 1 will be placed as space allows. While every downtown school in the LGUSD will offer a TK program, Lexington will continue to be the only school providing an International Baccalaureate Early Years program with a multilingual focus in a small school setting.
